We are raising funds to purchase and install a memorial bench in memory of Jim Popowich. In partnership with Wesbild Developments an area at the Hockey Canada Cabin will be refurbished and beautified where the bench will be installed overlooking the pond.
Thanks to your generous donations, we raised a total of $4,390.00 in funds. Credit Card and PayPal processing fees amounted to $139.32 leaving a balance of $4,250.68 that could be applied towards the cost of the bench.
The bench and memorial plaque were ordered and paid for, and the bench has now been delivered and is being stored at the landscape maintenance yard. The total cost of the bench and plaque was $2,144.84. We will be setting aside an additional $500.00 for installation of the concrete pad that the bench will be placed upon.
Accordingly, we are pleased to say that this leaves an excess of funds raised in the amount of $1,600 that will be donated on your behalf to the Allan Brooks Nature Centre in memory of Jim Popowich. Thank you all very much for your generosity.
I also wanted to bring you all up to speed on the status of the actual bench installation. We were hoping to have this work commence in mid-September. Our plan is to create a small memorial garden next to the Hockey Canada Cabin
Due to the present workload of the Predator Landscape team, the garden work could be delayed and there was a possibility that it would only get partially finished before the weather turns. Rather that have this partially completed, we have decided to defer the work until late March, early April 2023 when it can be completed in its entirety. We can then hold a dedication ceremony in the spring when the weather will be more cooperative. We trust everyone is okay with this decision.
If you need any further information, please feel free to contact me, otherwise, I will provide a further update as we progress.
Thank you all again,
The PRCEMC Team
