Predator Ridge Community Safety (PRCS)

Who Are We?

The PRCS committee was established by a group of volunteer Predator Ridge residents as an umbrella committee that integrates a variety of emergency planning initiatives in our community, in accordance with the overall City of Vernon Emergency Management Program.

We are a self-funded volunteer organization, supported by residents and stakeholders in the Predator Ridge Community.

Our History

The PRCS came together as an unofficial committee in 2014 (originally called the Predator Ridge Community Emergency Management Committee (PRCEMC) to plan for and develop a Predator Ridge Community Emergency Management Plan (EMP), in coordination with the City of Vernon. We received support from Predator Ridge Resort and Sparkling Hill Wellness Centre, and unofficial recognition and encouragement from the City of Vernon to proceed. The City of Vernon is a “local authority” under the BC Emergency Program Act, and as such is able to establish subcommittees to support its work. After making a presentation to them in 2017, the PRCS was officially recognized on February 13, 2018 as a member of the Vernon Emergency Program Subcommittee (VEPS).

What We Do

  • Maintain the EMP continuous/cyclical process, based on the four interdependent components of emergency management: Prevention/Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.
As noted in our Mission Statement, the PRCEMC and the EMP focus primarily on the proactive, Prevention/Mitigation and Preparedness components. Response and Recovery requirements are coordinated and maintained directly by the City of Vernon and emergency response agencies (e.g., RCMP, Fire, EMS and Emergency Support Services).
  • Maintain a Hazard, Risk, Vulnerability Assessment (reviewed annually) to identify and prioritize community hazards, the risk of them occurring, and the associated vulnerabilities. We set objectives and carry out actions deemed reasonable within our mandate and resources.
  • Develop and produce information and education materials for Predator Ridge residents on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordinate training (e.g., First Aid/AED, Emergency Preparedness) and annual education events for residents.
